Art that comes from
the earth itself.
Each Move & Make session is a sustainable making practice rooted in what nature already provides. Every material comes from the earth and can return to it. Nothing is wasted.
We weave sticks. We catch light on paper. We build chimes that sing in the wind, mobiles that find their balance, tiny shelters tucked into the grass, and boats that actually float.
Through projects that are both fun and meaningful, your child will apply artistic principles in dynamic ways. Each child’s project will be a reflection of their own ideas and responses to age-appropriate prompts (rather than copying an example) which fosters their artist identity.
Being an artist isn't about the supplies or creating a specific outcome. It's about looking at the world and responding to what's already there. Children who learn this become stewards of beauty — they find it, they make it, and they leave it behind to return to the earth.
This is for the creative and curious kid. The one who learns by touching, testing, and moving. Move & Make is built for them.
This is what a maker session feels like.
What you’ll actually make
Drop in for one session or come to all six. Each one is its own complete making experience — rooted in a real artistic principle, using only natural materials.

Session 1
Tuesday, June 16
Stick Weaving
Rhythm & Pattern
We use sticks and turn them into pieces of woven artwork using grasses, fiber and flowers. Kids discover how pattern and rhythm are everywhere in nature, and how they can use texture, shape and color to create their own.
Session 2
Tuesday, June 23
Sun Printing
Light & Impression
We use sunlight and natural objects — leaves, flowers, feathers, grasses — pressed onto light-sensitive paper to make prints. Kids discover how light, shadow, and the shapes nature makes can become their artistic medium.
Session 3
Tuesday, June 30
Wind Chimes
Sound & Silence
We gather stones, shells, seed pods, and sticks and build chimes that hang and move in the wind. Kids discover that sound is something they can shape — and that the materials around them are already full of it.
Session 4
Tuesday, July 14
Bird Mobiles
Balance & Structure
We use natural materials to build birds and suspend them in mobile form. Kids discover how balance and structure work — adjusting and experimenting until everything finds its place.
Session 5
Tuesday, July 21
Fairy Houses
Observation & Place
We use bark, sticks, and natural materials to build tiny homes. Kids discover how to think like a maker and a homemaker at the same time: how to create something that feels safe and beautiful, and how to decorate with what nature already provides.
Session 6
Tuesday, July 28
Boats & Floats
Buoyancy & Motion
We build boats from bark, cork, sticks, and natural materials and then put them in water to test them. Kids discover how design, weight, and shape determine what floats — and keep adjusting until their boat does.
Thanks for checking out Move & Make!
Hi, I’m Jenny.
I'm a mom of two active, creative boys — and an artist and creative myself. I'm the founder of Creative Foresight, and I believe that choosing creativity today makes tomorrow better.
Move & Make is an outpouring of my love of sharing creativity, artistry, and being outdoors with my kids. Over the past couple of summers I've been designing outdoor art experiences for my boys and nephews — watching what happens when you offer kids real materials in an open-ended environment. What comes out of them is remarkable.
This summer I'm so excited to open that experience to the Iowa City community. Everything we do is nature-focused in materials, experience, and the life of the finished piece. No plastic. No waste. No kit that ends up in a landfill. Just kids, the earth, and the discovery that they are already artists.
I’d love for you to join us!

Common questions
Do caregivers stay?
Yes — caregivers participate alongside their children. This is a shared making experience, not drop-off. Parents, grandparents, and nannies are all welcome.
Do I need to come to all six sessions?
Not at all. Each session is its own complete experience — drop in for one, a few, or the whole series. The $175 full-series price is there for families who want the rhythm of all six.
Can little siblings come along?
Yes — little ones are welcome. There's a grassy field right next to the pavilion where they can roam and play while the making happens. Just know that the maker sessions do involve some hands-on support, so plan accordingly if you're bringing the whole crew.
What do we need to bring?
Yourselves and clothes that can get a little earthy. We’ll meet under a covered pavilion with bench seating, but please bring along sun protection in case your kiddo wants to work in the sunshine. Drinking water is also recommended. All materials are included.
What happens if it rains?
We'll communicate a rain plan to all registered families in advance of the session. Light summer rain? We’ll still meet. A real storm? We'll reschedule. Details will be communicated via email in a timely fashion.
